Announcing #MoreThanALabel: Immigrant Stories!
What is it?
#MoreThanALabel is a blog carnival and social campaign aimed at raising the voices of those within the immigrant community. We are asking bloggers and social advocates alike to offer their perspective on how we can transcend labels and celebrate immigrant pride.
How can you participate?
Immigrant communities spanning multiple heritages are often subject to stereotypes, vilification, and limitations as a result of being labeled an immigrant. We want to celebrate and empower immigrant communities by giving them the opportunity to establish their own self-definition. Lend your voice to this campaign by sharing your story.
In the form of a blog post, we would love to give you a platform by telling us how you are #MoreThanALabel. Please create a post on your personal blog or website that includes the following information.
- Your name.
- A picture of you or you and your family.
- Your ethnicity and/or country of origin.
- How you define yourself. For example: “I’m a artist,” “I’m an advocate,” “I’m a parent,” “I’m a doctor.”
- Tell us (in one to three sentences) how other immigrants can continue to combat labels and stigma and promote immigration pride!
If you would like to be featured by SocialWork@Simmons, send a link to your blog post to Chris Ingrao or Megan Dottermusch. We will be rounding up all of our participating voices in our “First Voices” post going live in mid-September.
