Clinical Specializations

ClinicalSpecializations

The online master’s in social work program offers opportunities for focused study that build knowledge and skills in an area of personal interest. Specialization coursework expands students’ knowledge in an area of clinical practice, such as assessment, intervention, and evaluation for clinical practice with particular client populations.

Students who declare a field of specialization will graduate with expertise in a given area, but will have made required and recommended elective choices that will deepen their knowledge about theory and practice approaches with regards to social work practice with children and families, trauma and interpersonal violence, mental health and addictions, and health and aging.

While specializations are optional, all students have the chance to advance their practice skill in electives taught by expert faculty.

SocialWork@Simmons offers students four areas for focused preparation:

Child and Family
Trauma and Interpersonal Violence
Mental Health and Addictions
Health and Aging
